Problem statement

We need a new engine to unlock the potential of hypersonic flight. Conventional rocket engines powered the US X-15's groundbreaking hypersonic achievements from 1959 to 1968. Fuel consumption and limited payload rendered it commercially impractical.

Industry focus shifted to jet engines. Despite breakthrough announcements from well-known companies, two hurdles persist:
The Thermal Barrier
Dependence on atmospheric air for combustion leads to friction and extreme heat at high speeds, challenging even materials like titanium.
The Speed Gap
Traditional jet engines lack the thrust necessary to reach the minimum operating speed required for high-speed RAM/SCRAMjet engines.
It’s not about cost or better engineering; it’s a core physics and materials science challenge.
