Jail is more expensive than Harvard. Private treatment fails 80% of the time. Prison recidivism is an alarming 90%. In 2018, over 80% of hospitals received a financial penalty from Medicare for failing to meet readmission requirements. All these programs put the responsibility for success on sick and ill-equipped participants - often without additional resources and we expect them to be successful. Homeless patients are discharged from state of the art facilities literally onto the sidewalk. We can do better.
