Rhyzo is a company that makes at-home mushroom cultivation easy and affordable. Specializing in mushroom technology, Rhyzo is undergoing beta testing for a device that monitors and controls the mushroom fruiting environment by modulating humidity, airflow, and lighting. Other current projects include preparations for the decriminalization of small-scale psilocybe farming and the organization of a variety of small events around Austin ranging from dinner meetups to mushroom-history lectures.

Due to the high-maintenance nature of mushroom cultivation, thousands of mushroom cultivators are unable to maintain their hobby alongside a busy lifestyle. As a result, fungal cuisine and medicine are inaccessible to those who don't want to start a large-scale automated setup.
Some progress we've made over the past few months: We have engineered a working MVP that was designed within the specification and price range suggested by our survey of over 100 mushroom cultivators from mycological societies around the US. We have hosted multiple profitable workshops, secured a booth at Startup-City-Limits, and met with a variety of mentors such as investors, lawyers, engineers, and production specialists. We won the fall 2023 Longhorn Startup Pitch competition, and have pitched numerous times in front of other audiences for critique. Throughout the bootstrapping process so far, we have remained profitable at a small margin, even without the input of grants. We have a list of around 10 people awaiting Beta-Testing units and plan to gather more reception through upcoming workshops.
