Jeffrey R. Schab

CEO (ProTech AI & Protequus); unrelenting optimist and BME dedicated to protecting animal welfare through data science

Biography

Jeffrey R. Schab is an accomplished equestrian and biomedical engineer with a 25-year record of valuation creation and innovation. Having spent more than 15 years in New York on the human side of the health equation at Omnicom and then founding & operating one of the largest privately held medical marketing networks in the United States (Medical Knowledge Group), Jeffrey intimately understands the critical success factors in starting, operating, and growing a business from the ground up. As such, it came as no surprise when Jeffrey formed Protequus® and shifted his focus to the animal side of things.

Protequus® is a privately held scale-up company in Austin, TX working to protect the welfare of horses through advances in data science, biosensors, and the IoT (internet-of-things) ecosystem. Formed in 2013 following the sudden loss of one of Jeffrey’s horses overnight because no one knew he was in trouble, Jeffrey assembled a multidisciplinary team and created a patented AI-driven predictive-health wearable known as the NIGHTWATCH® smart halter™ that Forbes reports is “one of the most sophisticated IoT devices they’ve ever seen.” Over the past decade Jeffrey and his team have created a hardware-enabled SaaS business focused on the $300+ billion equine industry and built a robust portfolio of IP/technology (7 patents with protection in 20+ countries) that will allow them to build upon their success to enter new global equine markets (APAC, EMEA) and grow across other animal species, including companion animals.

To this end, Jeffrey took the first step to enter the companion animal market in 2023 when he formed ProTech Animal Intelligence™ (PTAI), which is working to solve the #1 problem with pet wearables while helping 65+ million pet parents keep their dogs safe and contained without the need for a buried wire or physical fence. Their AI-driven GPS-enabled containment collar in development will offer 10X the power efficiency and 100X the precision of today's market leader thereby making PTAI’s solution the new reference standard and the only GPS-enabled containment solution for small dogs and small yards.

Jeffrey is a graduate of Tufts University, a devoted husband, and father to his beloved daughter, two rescue dogs, and three horses.
