The Critical Minerals and Materials for Advanced Energy (CM2AE) Tech Hub, led by the University of Missouri System, aims to address the critical need for a reliable domestic supply of processed minerals essential for advanced energy technologies. By leveraging south-central Missouri's mineral-rich geography and expertise in hydrometallurgical refining, CM2AE seeks to increase processing capacity for converting minerals into materials necessary for battery technology, such as lithium-ion and primary-lead-acid batteries. This initiative aims to meet the demand of U.S. advanced energy manufacturers, reduce dependence on foreign critical minerals, and create thousands of well-paying jobs, thereby enhancing national security and driving economic growth.
