Eon Systems is a biotechnology research company solving the brain emulation problem — the full preservation, scanning, reconstruction, and digital emulation of biological neural systems. Their approach treats brain emulation as an engineering sprint rather than a decades-long research program, with the goal of enabling humans to flourish alongside AI superintelligence. In a landmark October 2024 Nature paper, Eon's team demonstrated the first digital animal brain: a complete fruit fly brain with 139,255 biological neurons and 50 million connections, emulated digitally with 91% accuracy of neural responses using only connectivity and neurotransmitter identity. The digital fly responds to light, navigates, grooms, walks, and feeds — with no hand-coded behaviors.
