Developing Supersonic UAVs to Advance Air Combat Training
Los Angeles

About Exosonic

Exosonic is an early-stage aerospace start-up based in Los Angeles, CA developing supersonic adversary air UAVs to support the fighter pilot training mission for both commercial and government customers. The goal is to mature these supersonic UAVs to become loyal wingmen (or collaborative combat aircraft) and eventually develop quiet supersonic airliners from the lessons learned and profits generated by the supersonic UAV product line. Founded in 2019, Exosonic has raised $4.5M+ in private capital and $3M+ in AFWERX funding. The team has 12 FTEs and is developing a subscale flight test vehicle to demonstrate autonomy and potentially crewed-uncrewed teaming with a first flight timeframe of Q2 2023.

Problem statement

We're addressing the lack of representative, affordable aircraft used for air combat training that are necessary to ensure US fighter pilots are well-trained to protect the US against a near-peer threat, like China. Today's fighter pilots either train against very expensive operational aircraft like F-35s, F-22s, or F-16s. To save on cost, the USAF and US Navy hire air combat training companies who fly 60 - 70 year old aircraft platforms acting as 21st century enemy fighter aircraft. Needless to say, these give US fighter pilots a false sense of air superiority in training which may not translate well in actual combat. Exosonic wants to be at least 2x cheaper than existing commercial solutions (or 3 - 5x cheaper than existing government solutions) by developing supersonic UAVs that actually represent today's adversaries. These supersonic UAVs will allow fighter pilots to train like they fight so they can be adequately prepared to defend against enemy threats.

Traction information

Secured $620M in LOIs for 65 of Exosonic’s Revenant supersonic UAVs from commercial air combat training companies
Received $3M+ in USAF AFWERX contracts to mature Exosonic’s supersonic aircraft designs tailored to USAF mission sets
Raised $4.5M+ in funding from private investors, including Stellar Ventures, Soma Capital, Ycombinator, Unpopular Ventures, Jude Gomila, etc.
