Runatek

Revolutionizing Outpatient Pain Management

About Runatek

Runatek is a medical device startup that has developed a smart device (the Sotiras) that regulates the concentration of opioid pain medication in a patient’s system when they’re recovering from a major surgery, such as a total joint replacement (TJR). This ensures that the patient does not misuse the medication or develop an addiction by leveraging proprietary sensing methods to determine the concentration of medication in a patient’s system and provide subcutaneous doses of medication to maintain a doctor-prescribed setpoint in an outpatient setting.

Problem statement

- Surgeons prescribe opioids after a major surgery (such as a Joint Replacement)
- Taking pills or injections causes a cycle of high and low concentration
- This juxtaposes pleasure (high) and pain (low) outside the therapeutic window
- Leads to cravings, misuse, and addiction
- Payers have to shell out $78 Billion for addiction treatment each year (plus lawsuits)

Traction information

Company is pre-revenue and has no clinical trials yet.
Partnership with UT Tyler, all IP owned by Runatek (Patent pending)
