As an analyst for the elite US military special operations community deployed to Iraq, SafeStamp Inc. founder Matt McGuire became obsessed with a question: How did the various terrorist and insurgent groups have so much money? After getting to the bottom of this rabbit hole, Matt discovered the issue of counterfeiting. However, it was not until after his service, when Matt was attending the Wharton MBA program, that he realized the full scale of the problem. He observed international students buying medicine and vitamins in Philadelphia and sending them home to their families. He carried out some more research and learned that counterfeiting costs companies $4 TRILLION per year (Forbes) and pharma counterfeiting kills a million people per annum (INTERPOL).
Matt decided to solve the problem. He built a team and founded a mission-driven business-to-business (B2B) company to create branded, globally recognized authentication labels sold directly to firms, empowering them to recapture lost sales, brand against substitutes, and protect their customers.
