The problem is twofold. The first is one we know we have, centered around the inevitable disconnect between parents and children due to distance and time. The profound problem parents face is not only about being physically present - it is about being truly known and understood by their kids. Our lives are finite, there is no way to make up for lost time and in the end we leave fragments of our thoughts, emotions and memories scattered between social media, messaging apps, and the cloud. The second problem is one many do not know is coming. It is about AI Alignment and the looming reality that within 3-5 years, in one form or another, AI will be acting as a proxy for parents with children in nearly every aspect of child-raising. Families will be engaging with AI-based education, transportation, and household systems that will need to represent their ideals and values. Without intervention, these AI family agents will reflect generic or predisposed behaviors. In other words, tomorrow’s AI tutors, nannies, and family companions need to be trained with a family’s bespoke voice and values. The purpose of Trove is to tackle the first problem, while simultaneously solving the second.
