IPTalons provides managed research security services to help organizations protect their innovation, intellectual property, and competitive advantage from insider and outsider threats, including foreign influence and nation-state-sponsored threat actors. We combine our insider threat management expertise with proprietary technology platform insights of our Innovation Protection Platform (IPP) to identify, assess, and investigate advanced persistent threats to researchers, research data, trade secrets, and intellectual property resulting from foreign influence IP-theft networks and competitive intelligence targeting efforts. We design, implement, and manage research security and insider risk programs for all industry sectors, including academic, corporate, military, and government research organizations and funders.

Team

Problem statement

Innovative organizations, especially those working on critical technologies, face unprecedented risks from foreign influence, nation-state-sponsored, and traditional competitive intelligence threats. The rising concern of foreign influence conflicts of interest and IP theft has caused the United States Government and supply chain partners to implement strict research security compliance regulations and guidelines as a condition of research grant and contract funding. Most organizations do not have the internal expertise, technology, or insights to proactively manage the risks and effectively implement research security plans to meet compliance and legal requirements or industry best practices. These risk management gaps result in elevated personnel risks, contract violations, and regulatory breaches that can negatively impact the organization's revenues, competitiveness, reputation, and overall ability to protect its assets and interests.

Traction information

Regulations and guidelines at all levels (state, federal, and international) have driven the need for organizations to design, implement, and manage research security plans. For example, the new SBIR STTR reporting requirements now require grant funding agencies to conduct due diligence to identify foreign influence and foreign military affiliations in the grant awardee supply chains. IPTalons has developed its technology platform and managed services to engage 20 academic, corporate, and government clients and generate over $1M in revenue in 2023 by providing research security and insider risk management services to address those regulatory requirements. We have aggressively pursued a client pipeline to gear up for a successful 2024 by tripling our revenues via the subscription-based model to provide our managed research security services to prospective clients across critical technology sectors.
