ZEI is a founding member of the United States Hydrogen Alliance, the premier advocacy and lobbying organization of the hydrogen industry
ZEI moved into its new state of the art, 16,000 sqft advanced hydrogen energy technology development facility including full machining and rapid prototyping capability, hydrogen storage and testing, and manufacturing. Built to rapidly scale ZEI’s cutting-edge solutions
US Patent #12,092,268 “Portable Fueling System” covers the FTcase device design and operation as well as several variants to make the patent future-proof when new features are incorporated.
US Patent #11,603,965 “Portable Fueling System” is a Utility patent which covers a broad range of hydrogen (and natural gas) fueling and transfer methods with wide applicability
ZEI launched its first refueling product, the FTcase. The FTcase is a man-portable hydrogen fueling system the size of a carry-on suitcase. Together with a hydrogen delivery truck it can turn any parking lot into a pop-up hydrogen refueling station with zero installed infrastructure. In one step, ZEI solved a decades-old problem plaguing hydrogen transportation.
ZEI officially launched the FCV Vanguard, the fastest hydrogen boat in North America and the showcase for ZEI’s stealth hydrogen-hybrid powertrain Z-Class
ZEI sold the Sea Change ferry and its hydrogen fueling, storage, and powertrain to Switch E-Maritime, a commercial ferry owner and charterer. As part of the sale, ZEI also entered into a long term service contract with Switch to provide US Coast Guard approvals and technical support of ZEI’s technology.
The California Energy Commission combined with the South Coast Air Quality Management District awarded ZEI $6.375 million to build and demonstrate the world’s first mobile fueling system for liquid hydrogen.\r\n
The California Energy Commission combined with SoCalGas awarded ZEI $2.2 million to build and demonstrate a complete hydrogen ecosystem including a commercial hydrogen-powered harbor craft, a refueling truck, and a portable hydrogen fueling system. The project was successfully completed on time and on budget and this funded work led directly to ZEI’s FCV Vanguard prototype hydrogen boat, ZEI’s Z-Class power system, and ZEI’s FTcase hydrogen refueling system.
The California Air Resources Board awarded ZEI (at that time known as Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine) $3 million to build the World’s First Commercial Hydrogen Fuel Cell Ferry, known as the Sea Change. ZEI sold the ferry to a customer in 2019, and it successfully entered commercial service in 2024.
